Thanksgiving is a day that you can spend with your family and friends. If you’re like many people, you don’t want to spend an entire day in the kitchen cooking and preparing dishes. There are several dishes that you can go ahead and make now and put in the freezer so that they are ready to heat and put on the table for Thanksgiving.
The turkey is often the center of the Thanksgiving table. You can brine it and roast it a few weeks before the holiday. Cut the turkey into slices before you put it in a storage container. All you have to do is thaw the turkey, heat it and serve the main course with all of the side dishes. Add a small amount of herbed butter on the turkey for flavor. You can also make gravy using some of the broth from the turkey that you can freeze.
One of the side dishes that many people enjoy is green bean casserole. While it’s not that difficult to make, you can prepare the casserole and freeze it so that you don’t have as many larger dishes cooking in the oven on Thanksgiving. Reheat from its frozen state, topping the casserole with dried onions for a fresh flavor and crunch. Sweet potatoes might not sound appealing when they are reheated, but you can go ahead and whip them with butter and cinnamon, freezing them in a plastic container. When they are reheated, you want to add a little more butter to them as well as some chopped pecans and even a few marshmallows. Stuffing is another side dish that you can easily prepare and freeze for Thanksgiving. You can also make your dessert now as well. Any kind of pie is a good idea to make and freeze for later.
