James Donero is a co-founder and the president of Highland Capital Management L.P., based in Dallas Texas. In October of 2016 the firm announced that it was awarded a $1 million grant. The grant is being used to benefit The Family Place. The family Place is an organization that supports victims of family violence. It is a shelter that houses men and women who are victims of domestic violence. It is based closed to medical resources and also features a 24-hour crisis hotline. Dondero and the Highland Capital Management firm are contributed the $1 million grant to help The Family Place raise $2.8 million for its Legacy Campaign. Amanda Moore, of the Across Texas Patch, wrote an article about Dondero and his philanthropic efforts. In it, she highlights how Dondero does not let his many responsibilities keep him from his passion of improving Dallas. He is a well educated, successful business man, is involved in a great deal of philanthropic causes. He once donated $1 million to the Dallas Zoo to help it rebuild its hippo habitat. Moore says James Dondero “is thrilled to manage a company that cares about offering rewarding experiences to the residents of Dallas”. He has done so through contributing to other institutions like museums and libraries in the area.
